UN Envoy Commends New National Government in Libya Following Years of Inactivity and Internal Strife

During his initial briefing as the Special Envoy and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ján Kubiš informed the Security Council that the House of Representatives had overwhelmingly endorsed the Government of National Unity (GNU) on March 10. Kubiš also noted that over 130 members were present at the session, which he described as a significant political achievement, given the country's history of political division.

The new cabinet's composition, which represents different regions and constituencies, was also highlighted by Kubiš. However, he acknowledged that the appointment of more women to senior executive positions was necessary, as the current representation of women is only 15 percent.
